Two Words: Blood and Spirit

Hi Daughter,

Charlie Kirk was shot in Utah. A man was brutally beheaded in Texas. Reports have surfaced of a famous singer allegedly murdering his girlfriend. And almost daily, we hear of yet another school shooting. These are not isolated tragedies. They serve as prophetic warnings; clear signs of the end times, and Scripture tells us that what we’re witnessing is only the beginning.

As Christians, we should not be troubled by these things. Jesus already told us in Matthew 24 that these events must happen before His return. He warned in verse 9 that believers would be hated, persecuted, and even killed for His name’s sake. He also warned us in verse 12 that the love of many will grow cold. Without love, hatred develops, and murder becomes as common as grains of sand on the earth. We are not witnessing the world falling apart; we are witnessing the fulfillment of God's Word.

“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom… Because of the increase in wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”

Matthew 24:7-12

The truth is this: death is unavoidable for both believers and unbelievers. But the difference is, that while the world rushes to find cures, medicines, and temporary fixes, none of these can protect the soul from the spirit of death that spreads like a pandemic across nations.

The true solution is found in Christ. The only way to resist the spirit of death is to understand it, stand against it, and overcome it through God’s Word, His Spirit, and His promises.

Let’s explore together how you can conquer the spirit of death during these end times.

Why Does God Allow Evil to Happen?

Unless you are old and gray, the enemy has no legitimate claim over your life. So why does he keep taking lives? Or better yet, why does God allow it?

Those are valid questions to ask, and it's understandable to wrestle with them. The truth is, there isn’t always a simple answer. But here’s one thing we do know: God has given humanity the gift of free will. That means every person has the freedom to make choices—good or evil—and God will not override that freedom with force.

Yes, the Holy Spirit convicts hearts. Yes, God warns us through His Word and nudges us away from destruction. But He does not force obedience because forced obedience is not love. If He stripped away our free will, we would be nothing more than robots programmed to follow orders. And that’s not what God desires. He longs for willing hearts that choose Him.

So, what happens when someone who does not know God chooses to commit evil, like walking into a workplace or school to take lives? God does not stop them by force. Evil happens because people decide to do it. But here’s where it gets important: you are not helpless.

In that moment, you may have the option to resist physically or even use a weapon to defend yourself. That choice is yours. But as children of God, we have another layer of defense that goes beyond the natural. We don’t always have to rely on physical strength or weapons because the Spirit of God equips us with spiritual weapons far greater than anything man can wield.

Before we learn how to use those weapons, we first need to understand this: what is death really? Or should I say, who is death?

Who Is Death?

Death is not simply a physical event; it is a spirit. And right now, it is spreading like wildfire across the world. From rising violence to sudden tragedies, the enemy is on a mission to steal, kill, and destroy. But as Daughters of God, we are not defenseless. Christ has given us spiritual weapons to stand against the spirit of death and to walk in the abundant life He promised (John 10:10).

The spirit of death often appears in two forms: Directly and Indirectly. Knowing the difference will affect how you respond.

Direct Contact From the Spirit of Death

The first way the spirit of death can strike is by appearing in its spiritual form to take a life. Yes, this is possible. Scripture reveals this in Exodus 12, when the “destroyer,” also known as “the spirit of death,” swept through Egypt and killed the firstborn sons.

It is important to understand that the spirit of death can only influence the lives of those God “permits” it to. This means that if you have given your life to Christ, the spirit of death cannot come near you. In the book of Job, God allowed Satan to touch everything surrounding Job but not “Job’s life.” That’s why in Job 1:18-19, Satan was able to send a strong wind to strike down the house where Job’s children were, killing them. Notice how Satan did it from the “spiritual realm” rather than from the physical realm. In Exodus 12, it shows that God did not “permit” the spirit of death to touch the lives of the Israelites.

“When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and He will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.”

-Exodus 12:23

However, those who reject Christ or align themselves with darkness open a door for demonic death to operate. That’s why we sometimes hear of mysterious deaths, such as people suddenly collapsing, internal bleeding with no medical explanation, or sudden “untraceable” illnesses. These can be spiritual attacks from the spirit of death.

Indirect Contact From the Spirit of Death

The second way death operates is indirectly by influencing or using other people to carry out its destruction. If it cannot reach you spiritually, it will try to reach you through human vessels. That’s why Satan used Job’s wife and friends to torment him, because he knew he wasn’t permitted to touch Job’s life. When Job’s wife told him to “curse God and die,” (Job 2:9) that was Satan influencing her to convince Job to take his own life.

This is why murders, mass shootings, wars, and acts of violence continue to rise. The spirit of death manipulates people, knowing that God has given humanity free will. And because God does not override free will, He will not forcefully stop someone from committing evil.

We see this in Matthew 27:22–23, when the crowd, stirred up by darkness, cried out for Jesus to be crucified. The spirit of death worked through them to push forward its destructive agenda. Today, it still works through criminals, corrupt leaders, law enforcement gone astray, and anyone who has hardened their heart against God.

It is important to recognize these two forms—direct and indirect—because your method of defense depends on how the spirit of death attacks. If it attacks directly, you need to know how to stand spiritually, and if it attacks indirectly, you must be prepared to defend yourself physically.

The enemy’s goal is always the same: to end your life before your God-given purpose is fulfilled. But the good news is this: he doesn’t get the final say. Christ does!

God has given us two coverings to defend ourselves from both the direct and indirect attacks of the enemy:

1. The Blood of Jesus

2. The Gift of the Spirit

How the Blood of Jesus Protects Us (Direct Attack)

As mentioned earlier, the direct attack from the spirit of death occurs when it takes your life using its natural spiritual form. The only way the spirit of death will not be allowed to take your physical life from the spiritual world is if you are covered with the blood of Jesus. The only way you can be covered with the blood of Jesus is when you accept Him as your Lord and personal Savior. When you do this, He places a mark on you. It’s literally an “untouchable” mark, which means that when the spirit of death attempts to end your life, the mark differentiates you from others. It will know you cannot be touched.

When God permitted the spirit of death to take the lives of the firstborn Egyptians, He gave Moses instructions for Israel to cover their doorframes with the blood of a spotless lamb:

“The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.”

-Exodus 12:13

That lamb was only a foreshadow of the ultimate sacrifice; Jesus, the Lamb of God. Jesus’ blood covers us from sin, eternal judgment, and the spiritual sting of death. Thus, once you have the blood, not only are you untouchable by the spirit of death in the spiritual realm, but you also have eternal life when you die.

But here’s the challenge: while the blood protects our lives from being taken through spiritual means, there is also the second part to this puzzle, where the spirit of death can possess or influence man to take our life.

How the Spirit of God Protects Us (Indirect Attack)

The enemy uses people as his instruments when he cannot reach those covered by Christ’s blood. Jesus knew His mission was to give us eternal life through His blood. But He also recognized that the people of this world are wicked and that we would need physical protection. That’s why, after He died on the cross for our sins, He told His disciples:

“It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away,

the Helper will not come to you.”

-John 16:7

The “Helper” refers to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is available to help us navigate this fallen world. But the question is: how does the Holy Spirit protect us from physical death?

The book of Acts makes it clear:

“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”

-Acts 2:17

Why is this important? Because while the blood covers you, the Spirit guides you. Jesus knew that due to the evil coming upon the earth, believers would need a warning system for the dangers ahead. That’s why He poured out His Spirit in the last days so we could receive the gifts of the Spirit, including visions and dreams. Why? Because being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or even the right place at the wrong time, can be deadly. If God reveals to you that danger is in Zone A, you will avoid Zone A. The Spirit warns before danger comes.

For example, in 2 Kings 6:8–12, the king of Aram was planning secret ambushes against Israel. Yet every time, Elisha warned the king of Israel, saving lives. The king assumed there was a spy in his camp, but it was simply God’s Spirit revealing the enemy’s plans.

That same protection is available to us today. Without the Spirit’s guidance—through dreams, visions, or discernment—you might walk straight into danger unaware. Every moment of survival was, and still is, tied to knowledge, wisdom, and divine insight.

Dying is inevitable, so this isn’t about preventing death; it’s about making sure you don’t die before your time.

How to Receive the Blood of Jesus as a Covering

The blood of Jesus is your first line of defense against death because it protects you from both physical death and the second death in the afterlife. It is the most important protection you can have. There is only one way to receive the blood of Jesus as your covering and that is through salvation.

There is only one way to be saved:

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

-Romans 10:9

If you believe that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead, pray this prayer and you shall be saved:

Prayer of Salvation

Dear God,

Thank You for allowing Your Son Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. May You mark me with the blood of Jesus and fill me with Your Spirit. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Congratulations! You are now saved. You are untouchable in the physical and unstoppable in the spiritual. I hope our paths cross one day; if not, I’ll see you in Heaven.

How to Receive the Gift of the Spirit

If you have prayed the prayer of redemption and salvation, the next step is to receive the Spirit. When Paul was in Ephesus, as recorded in Acts 19, he asked the believers, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” (v. 2). Since they had not, he prayed for them, and they began speaking in tongues. Speaking in tongues is one of the signs that you have received the Spirit of God.

If you haven’t received the gift of tongues yet, don’t worry; you can. Tongues is also one of the gifts of the Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12:8–10, Paul lists all the gifts of the Spirit available to us in the end times. It’s important to note, however, that while some receive these gifts based on their ministry or calling, others must hunger for them. This means you must sincerely desire and seek after these gifts.

“Now eagerly desire the greater gifts."

-1 Corinthians 12:31

Although the gifts are for us, God wants us to put effort into receiving them. When something is given without effort, it is often misused. God wants to make sure these gifts are used for His purposes, not for show. For example, if God gives you the gift of vision and shows you that someone is about to die in their sins, you need to be willing to act, pray for them or go and preach to them.

How do you eagerly desire these gifts? Praying and fasting are essential ways to pursue them. Sometimes, you must go further. I remember fasting and praying for the gift of tongues and not receiving it at first. Then I took another step and gave an offering in church. Of course, God does not need our money, but my act of giving showed my faith and how strongly I wanted the gift. Other times, it requires sacrificing your time to spend with God, whether in His Word or through prayer.

With God’s spiritual gifts given to us in these end times, you will be able to recognize danger before it arrives.

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

-Isaiah 30:21

Conclusion

The blood of Jesus secures your eternity. The Spirit of God guides your steps physically. Together, they protect you from the spirit of death that lurks in these last days.
